Beauty in Pain: Finding Purpose in Chronic Pain and Illness

"But we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint." Romans 5:3-4

With this blog, I want to raise awareness for a breakthrough surgical procedure and give hope to other CRPS/RSD (type 1)/causalgia (type 2) and fibromyalgia sufferers that YOU CAN LIVE A LIFE WITHOUT PAIN! In January 2017, I underwent a DRG stimulator implant, and it saved my life.

I also want to raise awareness for the disease itself, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. From the unique perspective of being a doctor and CRPS patient, I have had to advocate for myself, question my doctors, seek second and third and fourth opinions, and never give up when a treatment failed. That doesn’t mean I never have bad days or came out of the failed treatments with an immediately positive attitude, but ultimately I continued to push through and fight until I found a treatment that worked and became stronger for it. Now, I’m devoted to helping advocate FOR YOU AND WITH YOU, fuel your fight, and support you every step of the way.

Even though I am a health care professional, orthopedics and peripheral neuropathy are not my specialty. I am sharing my experience as a patient. If you are living with chronic pain and remain undiagnosed, are afraid you have been misdiagnosed or have other medical issues, or have not yet found a doctor or satisfactory treatment, I urge you to seek the appropriate professionals (podiatrist, orthopedic surgeon, rheumatologist, or pain specialist).

Below are links with information about the doctors I credit with saving my life:
